Intending to achieve cognitive integration by encompassing and controlling intellectual production in Arabic, the Arabic Union Catalog is pleased to announce the launch of its initiative to enhance the AUC database with records in other languages, starting on May 28th, as part of its continuous efforts to achieve cognitive integration. Members' records will be displayed and added in foreign languages. Furthermore, they will be uploaded to the catalog under specified controls and locations. Moreover, Arabic, English, and French search interfaces will be available for searching and retrieving records.

What is the purpose of the Arabic Union Catalog supporting foreign languages?

  1. Enhance cognitive integration by expanding information and knowledge sources beyond Arabic.
  2. Assisting academic libraries and research centers with foreign language curricula. As a result, they can provide foreign language collections in their catalogs.
  3. The monitoring of Arabic and Islamic publications in languages other than Arabic available in knowledge institutions and scientific research centers across the globe will be more comprehensive.
  4. Enabling the availability of Arab authors' writing in other languages.
  5. Assuring the sustainable development of members through collaboration and cooperation lies at the catalog's core.
  6. Supporting knowledge enrichment in some Arab countries that use local languages, including Kurdish and Amazigh. Also, support the languages spoken in other Arab countries along with Arabic, such as the French language used in North Africa.

What languages are supported by the Arabic Union Catalog?

It covers English, French, Kurdish, and Amazigh, which are the leading languages in the Arab world. Additionally, it includes globally spoken languages such as Italian, Spanish, German, Persian, and Chinese. The Arabic Union Catalog database can be expanded to include other languages.
