Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is set to host the Tenth Meeting of the Arabic Union Catalog Members. The event will take place from November 28th to 29th this year under the theme “The Arabic Union Catalog Empowering Linked Data Projects in Arab Libraries”. His excellency Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muaammar, General Supervisor of King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL), expressed his honor of organizing the meeting. The event brings together Arab experts in technology, libraries, archives, and museums to discuss developments in information organization, digitization, and services suitable for the digital environment. The main goal is to enhance collaboration and integration among Arab libraries and information centers, serving Arab and Islamic cultures to achieve developmental goals worldwide, he added.

The meeting  program will discuss knowledge organization issues, propose solutions, and explore technical applications. The meeting will involve libraries from all Arab countries, specialists, interested individuals, association and professional union leaders, and university professors in the field of libraries and information, along with two training sessions on semantic web application sand linked data for information access, and artificial intelligence applications in knowledge institutions.

KAPL emphasizes its commitment to serving Arab culture, particularly the intellectual aspect, through initiatives like the King Abdullah International Translation Award and monitoring Arab intellectual literature in all languages. These efforts reflect the depth of Saudi culture and its commitment to knowledge and awareness, demonstrated through advancements in education, the establishment of universities, and the creation of libraries that comply with international standards.

KAPL  launched the Arabic Union Catalog (AUC) in 2006, aiming to unify Arab intellectual literature in a single database, fostering collaborative environments among Arab libraries, especially in knowledge asset management standards. The AUC serves as a platform for Arab knowledge services and provides services to libraries, cultural centers, universities, Arab publishers, authors, and researchers,  containing four million bibliographic and authority records.
